⚠️ Edmonton police warn of rising grandparent scams — 20+ cases in the past 2 months.
Police say there's a rise in grandparent scams with more than 20 cases reported in the past two months alone. The scam typically involves a caller posing as a grandchild in trouble, asking for urgent cash transfers. Please share this with your parents, in-laws and any elders in your community — our Desi families are often targeted. The Alberta government is launching public engagement on AI data centres, with several town halls planned to answer questions and hear concerns from residents. With multiple large AI infrastructure projects proposed for Alberta, the government wants community input before approving new developments. 🎵 Edmonton Folk Music Festival kicks off TODAY through August 10! Folk Fest, one of Edmonton's biggest summer festivals, starts tonight at Gallagher Park. With dozens of artists across multiple stages, it's one of the best live music experiences of the summer. Tickets are available at the gate — a wonderful family outing this weekend.
🌫️ Wildfire smoke is a concern in Calgary and parts of Alberta this weekend. Calgary will see a mix of sun and cloud this weekend with some smoke. Check the Air Quality Health Index before spending extended time outdoors, especially with young children or elderly family members.
🌳 Heritage Festival wrapped up a record long weekend. 70+ pavilions representing 100+ countries took over Hawrelak Park August 1–3. The South Asian pavilions were among the most visited — our community's food and culture were a highlight as always.
